Hoists

What's a chain hoist?

A chain hoist is a device used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a drum or lift-wheel around which chain wraps. It may be manually operated, electrically or pneumatically driven and may use chain as its lifting medium. Most hoists couple to their loads using a lifting hook.

How do Chain Hoists work?

A chain hoist is a device used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a drum or lift-wheel around which a chain wraps. It may be manually operated, electrically or pneumatically driven and may use chain as its lifting medium. The most familiar form is an elevator, the car of which is raised and lowered by a hoist mechanism. Most hoists couple to their loads using a lifting hook.

Can a Chain Hoist be used horizontally?

The short answer to this question is no, you can’t use a chain hoist horizontally and here is why.
A chain hoist works by rotating a small gear combined with bigger gears to give the multiplied power that you need, it also has a set of ratchets and a wheel with sprockets where the chain fit, for this mechanism to work properly the hoist must be in the upright position so that the gravity aligns the chain links before entering the unit.

How to install a Chain Hoist?

If used carefully it will make removing and installing your hoist an easy and quick operation. Follow these instructions carefully and read the safety notes carefully and completely. This is a powerful tool and can damage your top, garage or you if you do not exercise appropriate care and common sense.

What's a lever hoist?

A Lever Hoist is a piece of high-quality equipment used to lift and lower heavy loads without the aid of machinery. Lever Hoists have the ability to lift items in most positions, including horizontally. Different from the Chain Block or Hoist, which can only lift items vertically, the Lever Hoist’s ability to lift items horizontally is a great benefit.

How lever hoists work?

The lever hoist works by cranking the lever up and down to power the ratchet and pawl system, which move the load a set distance per crank. The direction of the internal gear can be easily switched, to move the load up or down as needed. There is a hook on the end of the load chain for easy attachment to a load, and a hook attached to the housing of the lever block for attachment to a secure support
